Fiske
If Rose Bertin was the mother of couture, Mrs Fiske was the Diana Vreeland of Regency London. She was a designer, a maker, and the fashion editor of Records of Fashion and Court Elegance, a pioneering fashion plate magazine and an early precursor to today’s Instagram influencers.
Fiske’s .ai designs for the magazine needed to be forward-looking while maintaining a strong connection to Regency aesthetics. The advent of netting, fine muslins, and mass production, combined with traditional sewing craftsmanship, called for a visual style that could elevate these elements. The embroidered frame and brand typography achieved this balance.
