Strange

Strange is an imagined brand inspired by a nineteenth-century watch paper. The magazine needed a more design-led element, and the .ai responded with something unexpected. These three pendant watches stood out. The name comes from a Kingston-upon-Thames watchmaker, chosen for the typography we developed from a British Museum watch paper.

Each piece explores the idea of time as decoration. They are not functional watches. They are worn for impression, not precision.

Beating Heart
A reference to the physical closeness of a watch worn against the skin. Its rhythm is imagined, not heard, like a second heartbeat.

Princess Pineapple
A nod to the Regency obsession with pineapples. This one has been reworked into a pendant with cheerful confidence. A sister advert to our frippery, Costermonger and Son, Pineapple Advert.

Spring Flowers
A classic Regency motif, shown here in enamel. Simple, seasonal, and decorative. The most conventional of the three, and certainly the most commercial if you imagine which of these the Bennet sisters might choose were they to walk into Strange’s boutique.
